1 About us

MyCarChecklist ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at mycarchecklist.co.uk ("Service"). Contact us at joe@mycarchecklist.co.uk.

2 Agreement to terms

By accessing or using the Service you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

3 What the Service does

The Service allows users to:

  • Look up the MOT test history of any UK-registered vehicle using the official DVSA MOT History API.
  • View a buyer-friendly summary of MOT pass, fail, and advisory records.
  • Access AI-generated buyer guidance and known-issue summaries for specific vehicle makes and models.
  • Download a printable PDF buyer's checklist for use at vehicle viewings.
Important: Data is sourced from third parties and may not always be complete, current, or error-free. Do not rely solely on this Service when making a vehicle purchase decision. Always inspect the vehicle in person and seek professional advice.

4 Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes. You must not:

  • Scrape, bulk-download, or systematically extract data from the Service.
  • Circumvent rate limits, access controls, or security measures.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
  • Use the Service in any way that infringes the rights of third parties or violates applicable law.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit data obtained via the Service without our written consent.
  • Use automated tools (bots, crawlers, scrapers) to access or query the Service.

5 Third-party data & services

The Service relies on third parties including:

  • DVSA MOT History API — for MOT test records. Data is Crown Copyright and subject to DVSA terms.
  • OpenAI — for AI-generated analysis and summaries.
  • Netlify — for hosting and serverless functions.
  • Google AdSense — for advertising.
  • Affiliate partners (see Section 7) — for referral links shown alongside results.

We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or policies of these third-party services.

6 AI outputs

AI-generated content on this Service (buyer guidance, common fault summaries, risk assessments) is produced by a large language model and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. AI outputs:

  • Are provided for informational purposes only.
  • Do not constitute professional mechanical, legal, or financial advice.
  • May reflect general knowledge about a vehicle model rather than the specific vehicle being checked.
  • Should be verified independently before being relied upon.

You are solely responsible for any decisions or actions taken based on AI-generated content.

7 Affiliate links

The Service may display links to third-party products and services (insurance, warranties, vehicle history checks). Some of these links are affiliate links — we may receive a commission if you purchase through them. This does not affect the price you pay.

Affiliate links are clearly labelled "Ad" or "Sponsored". We only link to services we consider genuinely relevant to car buyers. We are not responsible for the products, terms, or practices of linked third parties.

8 Email unlock & communications

Certain features (AI Buyer Guidance, Common Issues, PDF checklist) require you to provide an email address. By submitting your email you agree that:

  • We may send you occasional car-buying tips, product updates, and relevant offers.
  • You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send.
  • Your email is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
  • We do not share or sell your email address to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

9 No professional advice

Nothing on this Service constitutes professional mechanical, legal, financial, or other advice. Always obtain a pre-purchase inspection from a qualified mechanic and independent legal or financial advice before purchasing a vehicle.

10 Availability & changes

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time without notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change features, pricing, or terms at any time; continued use constitutes acceptance.

11 Intellectual property

All intellectual property in the Service — including design, code, branding, and original content — belongs to us. DVSA MOT data is Crown Copyright and owned by the DVSA. You may not copy, reproduce, or exploit any part of the Service except as permitted by law.

12 Privacy

Our Privacy Policy sets out how we collect, use, and store personal data. By using the Service you confirm that you have read the Privacy Policy and consent to data processing as described therein.

13 Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties and accept no liability for:

  • Loss of profits, revenue, business, data, or goodwill.
  • Indirect, consequential, or special loss or damage.
  • Any loss arising from reliance on inaccurate or incomplete MOT data or AI outputs.
  • Any loss arising from third-party service outages or changes to third-party APIs.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or in connection with the Service shall not exceed £100. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

14 Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party rights.

15 Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time without notice if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, to comply with applicable law, or to comply with the terms of our third-party data providers.

16 Governing law

These Terms and any dispute or claim (including non-contractual disputes) arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
